With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Diana Lynn VanderMeulen has developed a resolutely hybrid practice that straddles analog and digital media, where collage, installation, and augmented reality constantly interact. Her work is distinguished by the creation of expansive, multisensory environments designed to envelop the viewer rather than simply be observed. Her works feature aquatic landscapes of North America, which she transforms into dreamlike digital gardens where the organic texture of living things blends with the abstraction of the pixel. Her 2023 residency at the Society for Arts and Technology in Montreal marked a turning point in her practice: there, she collaborated with Stefana Fratila to produce A Boundless and Radiant Aura, an immersive audiovisual performance. The resulting show, titled I want to leave this Earth behind, was specifically formatted for fulldome, and the resulting immersive film was nominated for the 2025 Best of Earth Fulldome Awards.

Diana Lynn VanderMeulen has presented exhibitions and projects at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, CADAF in Paris, the Constellations Festival in Metz, the Gardiner Museum, and Idea Exchange. Her practice has also included several public murals in Toronto, as well as workshops for Nike and for the Psychic VR Lab’s STYLY NEWVIEW program. She has performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, at Mutek in Montreal and Dubai, at the New Forms Festival in Vancouver, as well as at Lincoln Center in New York and the Château de Vincennes in Paris, as part of the Neptune’s Valley XR exhibition. She also led a fulldome rendering workshop with Innovative Media Studios at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Doha, Qatar, and has exhibited internationally at Art Playground Buffalo, CultVR in Cardiff, the Katara Planetarium in Doha, and the Synthesis Gallery in Berlin. Finally, she developed an augmented reality app called Swampy GoGo, which extends a series of two-dimensional mixed media landscapes into digital realities.
