Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Enzo Roff currently lives and works in Warwickshire, UK. He is known for his moving ultra-high resolution video still lifes, which combine meticulous observation and framing with opulent compositions to produce a subtle yet dramatic trompe-l'oeil effect. This effect is found throughout his work as a kind of signature. His main sources of inspiration are Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Hopper and Vilhelm Hammershøi, as well as many contemporary photographers and filmmakers.
Enzo trained as a lighting designer at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is extending his knowledge to his artistic practice. By manipulating the images, he uses natural degradation and pictorial noise to obtain an almost painted visual illusion of appearance. All his works are looped to give the impression of an image in continuous and infinite motion. His work has been shown on screens, in the form of installations and video projections, notably as part of a group exhibition of floral art at the Atkinson Museum in Southport, UK, alongside the work of Gordon Cheung, among others, in the exhibition Cross Pollination.

Collection - Dancers of the frozen lakes.
Legend whispered that on the far northern rim of Europe, where the land rose in crooked humps and the wind carved songs of jagged rock, the villagers waited through the long year for the one miracle beyond their command. Their lake froze only when Winter reclaimed her icy throne. On a night so cold the lake shone like glass, when it did, they stepped onto the ice to dance.
On that romantic night, the ancient magic stirred. Their garments shimmered and shifted with every turn: wool melting and becoming silk, homespun brightening into starlight, boots unfurling into shoes for dance. A single twirl could summon a cloak the colour of midnight; a turn could scatter skirts of pale fire. As they moved, with nothing but a thought by some quiet, unseen alchemy, their clothes changed to match the secret music only they could hear.
All of Enzo Roff's work is designed to loop seamlessly to give the impression of an endless sequence.
