Christian Brinkmann

Germany

Christian Brinkmann is a Hamburg-based audiovisual artist whose work is located in the field of tension between nature, technology and generative aesthetics. With a background in audio engineering, his artistic career began in electronic music production, particularly in the field of atmospheric techno and ambient compositions. A major impetus for the further development of his practice was his involvement with the TouchDesigner software, which opened up new possibilities for him to weave sound, visual real-time processes and interactive elements into an overall audiovisual experience. Brinkmann subsequently extended his research to biological systems - especially plants - whose electrical signals he translates into generative audiovisual compositions using sensory technologies.

His work is characterised by the integration of organic processes with digital media. Using programmes such as TouchDesigner, Ableton Live and Unreal Engine, Brinkmann generates lively, constantly changing sound-image spaces that are often influenced by the interaction of the audience. A central concern of his work is to make the invisible - the subtle, often overlooked connections between man and nature - tangible. Brinkmann gained international attention in particular with his work ‘Floral Resonance’, which has been exhibited worldwide - including at the Bratislava Philharmonic Hall, the Slovak National Theatre and in national television broadcasts.
