Ian Frederick is a motion designer and 3D artist. He loves to create high quality cinematic surrealism, things that defy physics, and abstract effects for brands, concerts, title sequences, and products. He started his career as a graphic designer/ illustrator but quickly learned that his passion lay in telling stories and creating surrealist, psychedelic effects through 3D art and motion design. He likes learning through experimentation, and is always pushing the limits of what is possible with experimental projects.
Ian has worked with clients such as Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, and X-Games, as well as musicians Maroon 5, Shania Twain, The Glitch Mob, Seven Lions, Audien, NGHTMRE and Excision. When he is not designing for a client or creating his own artwork, you'll find him keeping himself inspired by traveling, watching movies, going to concerts, and reading good books.

'Mitosis' is an abstract exploration of the evolution and growth of undersea life. I wanted to take what is already a surreal and abstract world and exaggerate it further to create something vibrant and captivating. The video begins with a single celled organism and minimal music, and as the complexity of the audio track gradually increases over time, so too does the complexity, quantity, and movements of the organisms. Coral reefs begin to grow and spread, fish undulate, abstract sea plants wiggle and sway in the current and colorful thermal vents explode. The hues and caustic light shimmer as schools of fish swarm until finally it all culminates in one grandiose wide shot of the entire coral reef. The music as well, swells to a grand orchestral climax, accentuating the epic fantastical nature of Mitosis.
