Born in 1978 in Lille, Franck Lefebvre grew up with a passion for nature and pursued higher education in the management and conservation of natural areas, before another passion led him away from forests and lakes: the lighting of live performances. Classical music, dance, opera, theater: the artificial lighting of darkened performance halls fascinated him, and for several years he focused his artistic practice on lighting for the performing arts. But he eventually began to miss the great outdoors, and in 2009 he conceived a new concept at the intersection of his passions for the world’s landscapes, light, and the performing arts: World Video Art. Together with his wife Florence, he founded a production company, Atmosphere Video, and embarked on a very long research process that would last more than ten years: studying landscape photography, managing natural light, long-duration video capture techniques, and color correction. “Capturing art in nature and sharing it with you, that’s what has guided me for ten years, as if it were second nature,” he confides, adding that our world is nothing but the harmony of the elements and perpetual motion. His working method follows three rigorous stages: meticulous preparation beforehand, the journey and filming, and then post-production. According to him, nothing is ever a sure thing: he has often had to return, time and time again, to capture the right light, at the right moment, during the right season. The result is a series of “living photographs” filmed in 4K UHD at 50 frames per second, twice the standard film frame rate, lasting five to ten minutes to faithfully capture the random and perpetual movements of natural elements, accompanied by a stereo soundtrack recorded on location and saved in RAW format to replicate human visual perception as closely as possible.

For more than ten years, Franck Lefebvre has traveled across Europe, from Greece to Iceland, in search of rare landscapes and unique lighting conditions: a quest that culminated in 2021 with the launch of his first collection, comprising more than sixty works selected from over a thousand video recordings, representing more than 100 TB of raw footage. Seeking to capture the full diversity of the world, he has organized his collection into several distinct chromatic universes, each with its own unique atmosphere. His creations have since been incorporated into prestigious interior design projects, appealing to architects as well as professionals in the healthcare and hospitality industries, for whom these vivid and soothing “living paintings” transform hotels, spas, restaurants, waiting rooms, and corporate spaces into places of visual and auditory relaxation.

A symbol of the tourism of yesteryear, let's give the postcard a new lease of life by revisiting it in the age of Video Art with this collection of Digital Postcards of the most beautiful streets in Paris. We're taking you on a journey back in time through 3 eras and 3 photographic colours: the sepia of the first postcards from the early 20th century, the black and white symbol of cinema in the 1950s and the HDR colour of the 21st century.

More on digital art

Generative art
Generative art refers to a way of creating artworks using an autonomous system. In digital art, these are usually generated from code and algorithms created by the artist, often with certain predefined parameters or systems. Although these parameters guide the final outcome of the work, generative art is generally a surprising way to create artworks, as the results are often unexpected and the number of possible outcomes can be infinite.
AI
AI art is a branch of generative art that uses artificial intelligence. Unlike other generative artworks, AI artworks use specific complex algorithms and models derived from machine learning. The most common methods for creating AI art today are GANs (generative adversarial networks) or proprietary prompting platforms such as ChatGPT, Sora, Midjourney, or Dall-e.
3D
3D art uses 3D software such as Blender, Cinema4D, Houdini, or video game software such as Unity to create works of art. In 3D works, artists can either arrange assets (the 'objects' in a 3D artwork or world) that they have created themselves or purchased from other creators to create elaborate environments and scenes (an approach to 3D art called 'set dressing'), or specialize in sculpting, which involves creating their own objects and assets.
Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a specialized 3D technique that allows 3D objects to be created from numerous photographs taken of an object or scene from multiple angles. These photos are then compiled to determine the specific positioning, shape, and dimensions of the object in space, and then converted into a 3D model. Initially developed for engineering and urban planning, photogrammetry has become a way for artists to produce extremely accurate 3D models from real-life images.
Collage
An extension of the traditional, plastic approach to collage, digital collage involves searching for and cutting out multiple images, extracting them from their original context, and recomposing them in a new arrangement to create a work of art. Artists can use their own photographs or find images on the internet.
Illustration
Digital illustrations are created using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate. As with drawing on paper, the artist uses a stylus to sketch a figure or object, usually on a tablet, to construct a scene or artistic universe. Unlike traditional drawing methods, digital illustration is much more forgiving, as mistakes can be easily corrected and drawn elements and objects can be easily moved around within a scene.
Video
Video artworks primarily use a recording camera, but may sometimes include additional post-processing or editing to distort, modify or add additional elements to the image. Some artists use state-of-the-art recording equipment to create macro zoom-ins or time lapses, privileging fidelity to the subject matter. Others use additional softwares to significantly modify or warp the video, creating an alternative perspective on the world that surrounds us.
