Tahn (Taeyoung Ahn) explores the boundaries between tradition and modernity, expressing Korean folk tales, mythology, and philosophical narratives through the medium of contemporary media art. His work delves into the intersection of time and space, humans and nature, tradition and technology, offering viewers innovative visual experiences. By blending elements from the past, present, and future, he creates immersive encounters through two-dimensional paintings, installation media, and interactive art. Tahn's artistic philosophy is rooted in "creating new perspectives by exploring human existence in spaces where the past, present, and future coexist." Through his work, he aims to inspire and resonate with audiences, inviting them to reflect on the interconnectedness of these dimensions.
Media artist based in the UK and Korea, selected as one of the top 50 new media artists in the world at the International New Media Art Festival in Lisbon in 2020, Tahn was selected as an artist for the 170th anniversary exhibition of the Royal West of England Academy in 2023 and the 100th anniversary of Visual art Scotland in 2024.

After the pandemic, the rapid advancement of science and technology has paradoxically led us to an era of hyper-disconnection amidst hyper-connection. In a society where digital platforms dominate our world, our lives have become increasingly isolated despite being hyper-connected. This work delves into the concept of isolation and discord in a modern society where digital platforms shape our existence.
The artwork symbolizes the absence of genuine connection among individuals in a highly connected but non-face-to-face society. It portrays people yearning for connection and presents an alternative vision of community and connection in a world overshadowed by hyper-connection. The piece emphasizes the significance of face-to-face interaction, physical contact, and shared experiences, aiming to rekindle the importance of real relationships in an increasingly virtual world facilitated by platform services.
Moreover, this work expands the concept of time, extending our perspective beyond the present weeks or years. It integrates elements of deep time, inviting us to contemplate our future and the implications of our choices. By exploring the contradictions of our digital age and expressing them through art, I seek to raise awareness of critical issues prevalent in modern society.
The development of digital platforms has undoubtedly brought us closer and provided access to vast amounts of information and online communities. However, it has also engendered a sense of seclusion and loneliness, leading to a learned helplessness in the face of isolation. As an artist, I delve into this duality, highlighting the importance of striking a balance between the real and virtual realms.
In modern society, we find ourselves socially connected but often questioning the authenticity of those connections. We tend to overlook the significance of genuine connection and communication between individuals. This artwork seeks to challenge this notion, presenting a fresh perspective on the problem. It urges us to reevaluate our understanding of connection and encourages us to forge meaningful connections despite the prevalence of hyper-connection.
Through this work, I aim to provoke contemplation and foster dialogue about the pressing issues surrounding our digital age. It serves as a reminder that while technological advancements have connected us in unprecedented ways, they have also posed challenges to personal space and genuine human interaction. Let us reflect on these complexities and strive to find harmony between the real and virtual, recognizing the importance of authentic connections in an increasingly digital world.
