Karakuri Music Boxes series are a mini stage for me to experiment with lighting, mixed media and music. Named after Japanese puzzle boxes that can only be opened through the completion of mechanical patterns or puzzles, the sliding doors and movement of the box reminded me a lot of the “trickery” used in projection mapping work to give the illusion of space being manipulated. Second in the series, the Winter Music box is a story of a girl who dances with lost souls so they could find comfort as they depart the world.
