Francesco Misceo is a multidisciplinary artist born in 1997 in Modena, Italy, whose practice blends experimental contemporary dance, digital arts, and new media. Trained as a professional dancer at the Peridance Center in New York in partnership with La Capriola Centro Danza in Modena, Francesco Misceo also honed his expertise in graphic design and visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. This dual training has shaped a unique artistic methodology, in which choreography is not limited to movement but explores the interactions between the human body, space-time, and digital tools to create a visual and sensory poetry where play and imagination become universal languages. His work aims to repurpose contemporary technologies, transforming them into creative partners rather than mere tools. In this way, he transforms the stage into a dynamic ecosystem, where the audience is invited to participate in an immersive and interactive experience.

Francesco Misceo has been the winner of the 2025 Videocittà Awards (“Creator” Award in Rome). He has also made a name for himself with interactive installations such as “Mixed Realities” (Art City × Plug Radio, Bologna) and “Beyond The Echo” (Nxt Museum × Rosewood, Amsterdam). His works have been exhibited in Times Square (New York), at Art Basel Miami (Trippy Lab Exhibition), and at the Constellations Festival in Metz, where he fused performance and multimedia. He has also collaborated with renowned companies such as Aterballetto (Roberto Tedesco), MN Dance Company (Slovenia), and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company (New York). His appearances at TEDx Bologna and Motion Plus Design Tokyo confirm his status as a committed and visionary artist, while his participation in competitions such as Juste Debout USA and The Kings of New York attest to his deep roots in the experimental and urban dance scenes.

BEYOND THE ECHO - Compilation

BEYOND_THE_ECHO_Francesco_Misceo_Generative_art.mp4

Beyond The Echo is a multimedia video installation that bridges the gap between the physical body and the natural world, creating an immersive experience where movement, technology, and nature converge to evoke a profound sense of connection and reflection. Through the fusion of dance, generative art, and real-time visual effects, the piece explores the delicate relationship between humans and the environment at a time when our planet’s biodiversity faces unprecedented threats.

At the heart of this installation is Francesco Misceo’s own dance, performed in diverse natural landscapes that act as both stage and subject. Using motion sensors to track his every movement, these gestures are transformed into data that generate interactive visual effects in real time through TouchDesigner, a powerful visual platform. The resulting visuals are dynamic and responsive, mirroring the fluidity and depth of the natural world, where every movement echoes within the space, shaping and reshaping the environment as it unfolds.

The installation speaks to the human impulse to reconnect with nature, not just as an external force but as an integral part of ourselves. The title, "Beyond The Echo," refers to the reverberations of our actions and the echo of nature’s call, which we often fail to hear in our modern, technology-driven lives. This work challenges viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the subtle, often overlooked interactions that occur between humans and the natural world. It is a call to deepen our respect and appreciation for nature, not only as a source of beauty but as a vital force that sustains our existence.

Beyond The Echo is a reflection on the interconnectedness of all things, inviting the audience to experience the delicate balance of this relationship in a contemporary and transformative way. Through the use of new digital techniques such as generative art and creative coding, the installation underscores the importance of preserving biodiversity while fostering a deeper connection between the human spirit and the earth. It is a meditation on the profound impact of nature on personal well-being and the urgent need to listen—beyond the echo of our daily lives—before it fades away.

In this immersive space, viewers are invited to witness the harmony between the dancer’s body and the natural world, seeing firsthand how each movement interacts with and alters the visual landscape. The data-driven visuals do not just reflect the dance; they embody it, transforming each gesture into a living representation of the connection between body and earth, challenging us to rethink our place within the ecosystem and the future of our planet.

More on digital art

Generative art
Generative art refers to a way of creating artworks using an autonomous system. In digital art, these are usually generated from code and algorithms created by the artist, often with certain predefined parameters or systems. Although these parameters guide the final outcome of the work, generative art is generally a surprising way to create artworks, as the results are often unexpected and the number of possible outcomes can be infinite.
AI
AI art is a branch of generative art that uses artificial intelligence. Unlike other generative artworks, AI artworks use specific complex algorithms and models derived from machine learning. The most common methods for creating AI art today are GANs (generative adversarial networks) or proprietary prompting platforms such as ChatGPT, Sora, Midjourney, or Dall-e.
3D
3D art uses 3D software such as Blender, Cinema4D, Houdini, or video game software such as Unity to create works of art. In 3D works, artists can either arrange assets (the 'objects' in a 3D artwork or world) that they have created themselves or purchased from other creators to create elaborate environments and scenes (an approach to 3D art called 'set dressing'), or specialize in sculpting, which involves creating their own objects and assets.
Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a specialized 3D technique that allows 3D objects to be created from numerous photographs taken of an object or scene from multiple angles. These photos are then compiled to determine the specific positioning, shape, and dimensions of the object in space, and then converted into a 3D model. Initially developed for engineering and urban planning, photogrammetry has become a way for artists to produce extremely accurate 3D models from real-life images.
Collage
An extension of the traditional, plastic approach to collage, digital collage involves searching for and cutting out multiple images, extracting them from their original context, and recomposing them in a new arrangement to create a work of art. Artists can use their own photographs or find images on the internet.
Illustration
Digital illustrations are created using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate. As with drawing on paper, the artist uses a stylus to sketch a figure or object, usually on a tablet, to construct a scene or artistic universe. Unlike traditional drawing methods, digital illustration is much more forgiving, as mistakes can be easily corrected and drawn elements and objects can be easily moved around within a scene.
Video
Video artworks primarily use a recording camera, but may sometimes include additional post-processing or editing to distort, modify or add additional elements to the image. Some artists use state-of-the-art recording equipment to create macro zoom-ins or time lapses, privileging fidelity to the subject matter. Others use additional softwares to significantly modify or warp the video, creating an alternative perspective on the world that surrounds us.
