The Genesis Protocol series is a collaborative work by Muriel Lherm and Treeskulltown. It explores the birth of consciousness in seven acts, blending AI, stop-motion, and digital art. A journey through light, nature, and the cosmos, where each work reveals a stage in the genesis of existence.

Muriel Lherm is a French-British artist based in London. She combines generative AI art and classical aesthetics with a poetic and contemporary approach. In 2025, her works were presented at Art Basel, NFC Lisbon, and AI4Conferences in Las Vegas. Exhibited more than 100 times worldwide, she regularly collaborates with major artists and projects, including World of Women, Gamma.io, and Claire Silver, in physical and virtual exhibitions internationally.

Treeskulltown is the conceptual avatar of a French multidisciplinary artist. With 20 years of experimentation and hybridisation between physical and digital art under his belt, his work today is as much a personal quest as an artistic one. His aim is to develop a temporal parallel, a conversation, with the masters of classical art, to create a sub-reality to art history using mixed media animation techniques, thus creating an analogue palimpsest in digital strata. Since 2022, his work has been exhibited and presented internationally in major events such as: Art Crush Gallery, MOWNA, NFT NYC, NFT Japan, DAM Zine, NFC Lisbon, NFT Factory Paris, R HAUS Art Basel Miami, QUANTA Gallery London, IHAM NFT Gallery Paris.

The Origin of Perception. A single illumination pierces the void – the first breath of consciousness.

Application of the Concept of Sub-Realism to the First Work

Exploring the Origin of Perception:

This first work becomes a visual exploration of the birth of consciousness, a fertile ground for applying the concept of Sub-Realism. The "single light that pierces the void" symbolizes not only the initial revelation but also the underlying depth of human experience. In this context, we reflect on the often superficial nature of our perception, inviting us to delve into the emotions and memories that linger beneath the surface.

I. Light as the True Revealer

Rather than viewing light as a mere visual effect, it becomes a powerful metaphor for creativity and introspection, illuminating the layers of emotions and aspirations that emanate from the subconscious. The work embodies the idea that each burst of light is actually an invitation to explore the magma of buried emotions.

II. Technical Hybridization and Sub-Art

The integration of digital animation and claymation stop-motion techniques represents a form of Sub-Art that breaks free from traditional conventions. By superimposing these techniques on Muriel Lherm's initial AI-generated work, filled with its sublime narrative richness, Treeskulltown attempts to transcend the medium to increase the already clearly identified narrative and emotional complexity. This visual palimpsest echoes the motif of sublimation, transforming raw impulses into a coherent and meaningful work.

III. Fluidity and Vibrant Colors

The fluid forms and vibrant colors evoke an aesthetic that seeks not superficial beauty, but rather an engagement with authentic emotions. This dynamic responds to the call of Sub-Realism, where every nuance and movement are manifestations of deep feelings. The visual elements become vectors of collective memory—memories and dreams that resonate with each viewer.

IV. Floating Figures and the Duality of Life

The floating figures, while evoking the ethereal, also represent frozen moments of introspective reflection. Their arrangement in space emphasizes the duality between what is tangible and what remains invisible. This interplay between the physical and the spiritual invites the viewer to question their own conscious and unconscious experiences, creating a direct link to the notion of collective consciousness.

V. A Unique Visual Narrative

Each element in this work contributes to a non-linear narrative that invites personal interpretation. The texture of the work, both complex and accessible, embodies the very essence of Sub-Reality. By evoking both lightness and depth, it allows viewers to explore their own layers of thoughts and emotions, fostering a universal connection. Conclusion

Through this first work, the concept of Sub-Realism emerges as an invitation to reflect on our own subconscious. By emphasizing the intersections between light and dark, tangible and intangible, art becomes the starting point for an ongoing exploration of the emotional depths and underlying truths of the human experience. The work does not simply exist; it embodies an open and constantly evolving dialogue, a true reflection of the complexities of life, consciousness, and art itself.

More on digital art

Generative art
Generative art refers to a way of creating artworks using an autonomous system. In digital art, these are usually generated from code and algorithms created by the artist, often with certain predefined parameters or systems. Although these parameters guide the final outcome of the work, generative art is generally a surprising way to create artworks, as the results are often unexpected and the number of possible outcomes can be infinite.
AI
AI art is a branch of generative art that uses artificial intelligence. Unlike other generative artworks, AI artworks use specific complex algorithms and models derived from machine learning. The most common methods for creating AI art today are GANs (generative adversarial networks) or proprietary prompting platforms such as ChatGPT, Sora, Midjourney, or Dall-e.
3D
3D art uses 3D software such as Blender, Cinema4D, Houdini, or video game software such as Unity to create works of art. In 3D works, artists can either arrange assets (the 'objects' in a 3D artwork or world) that they have created themselves or purchased from other creators to create elaborate environments and scenes (an approach to 3D art called 'set dressing'), or specialize in sculpting, which involves creating their own objects and assets.
Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a specialized 3D technique that allows 3D objects to be created from numerous photographs taken of an object or scene from multiple angles. These photos are then compiled to determine the specific positioning, shape, and dimensions of the object in space, and then converted into a 3D model. Initially developed for engineering and urban planning, photogrammetry has become a way for artists to produce extremely accurate 3D models from real-life images.
Collage
An extension of the traditional, plastic approach to collage, digital collage involves searching for and cutting out multiple images, extracting them from their original context, and recomposing them in a new arrangement to create a work of art. Artists can use their own photographs or find images on the internet.
Illustration
Digital illustrations are created using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Procreate. As with drawing on paper, the artist uses a stylus to sketch a figure or object, usually on a tablet, to construct a scene or artistic universe. Unlike traditional drawing methods, digital illustration is much more forgiving, as mistakes can be easily corrected and drawn elements and objects can be easily moved around within a scene.
Video
Video artworks primarily use a recording camera, but may sometimes include additional post-processing or editing to distort, modify or add additional elements to the image. Some artists use state-of-the-art recording equipment to create macro zoom-ins or time lapses, privileging fidelity to the subject matter. Others use additional softwares to significantly modify or warp the video, creating an alternative perspective on the world that surrounds us.
