Joe Vassar is a digital artist based in Asheville, North Carolina, who creates under the pseudonym Tenorless. Her work focuses on generative design, audio-visualization and immersive experiences. He uses generative algorithms and mathematical patterns to create abstract designs with underlying geometric symmetry. His main sources of inspiration are the Bauhaus movement (especially Kandinsky), Magritte, Mondrian and Delaunay. In addition to the artists he admires, he also spends a lot of time hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, finding inspiration in the endless patterns and complexities of nature. In terms of his background, he first studied new media at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, then obtained a UNCA scholarship to travel abroad and study art history in 2016. He then lives in Brussels and travels to France, Germany and Amsterdam to do research. It is only after university that he will really freelance in immersive graphics in real time and concert visuals. For most of the techniques he uses today, Tenorless is a self-taught artist.
